Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northeast Georgia, Lake Burton is a hidden gem with 2,775 acres of sparkling water and 62 miles of shoreline. For visitors seeking lakeside dining experiences, LaPrade’s Marina is the go-to destination. It’s the only full-service marina on Lake Burton, offering delicious food, boat rentals, and a welcoming community atmosphere.
LaPrade’s began in the 1920s, when John LaPrade built rustic cabins for Georgia Power workers constructing the Lake Burton dam. Once the lake was filled in 1925, he opened a fish camp that served generous, family-style meals to locals and travelers. It quickly became one of the first dining landmarks near Lake Burton.
Under John’s son Buford, LaPrade’s became a must-visit Lake Burton restaurant. Patrons enjoyed fried chicken, fresh fish, corn on the cob, okra, grits, peach cobbler, and homemade ice cream. Guests still talk about those unforgettable meals that embodied Southern comfort and warm hospitality.
In 2005, the original restaurant was destroyed by fire during redevelopment. But a new chapter began in 2008 with the opening of a stunning Adirondack-style timber-frame facility. Today, LaPrade’s is one of the top places to eat around Lake Burton, featuring:
LaPrade’s is not just a marina—it’s a destination for food lovers exploring Lake Burton.
Another Lake Burton favorite is Anchorage Boat Dock in Timpson Creek. Established in 1959, it’s a family-owned marina with a charming general store offering snacks, Lake Burton apparel, ice cream, bait, and seasonal café options. Though smaller than LaPrade’s, it’s a beloved stop for those seeking low-key eats and old-school mountain lake vibes.
LaPrade’s Marina is just minutes from Moccasin Creek State Park, making it a convenient dining stop for campers and hikers. Whether you're finishing a trout hatchery tour or coming off the water, the Lakeside Grill and Water’s Edge Restaurant provide ideal meals for outdoor enthusiasts exploring Lake Burton.
LaPrade’s hosts seasonal live music, 4th of July parties, boat parades, and waterfront weddings. Whether you want casual bites or a memorable dinner with mountain views, this marina combines great food with community energy. It's one of the few Lake Burton restaurants where you can dine with your toes in the water and music in the air.
From historic fish camps to modern lakefront dining, Lake Burton’s restaurant scene reflects its culture—welcoming, delicious, and rooted in tradition. Whether you're docking for lunch or planning a romantic dinner, LaPrade’s and Anchorage Boat Dock are two essential Lake Burton dining experiences.
